I just fired my driver.
I just had to.
He made too many errors.
For me, firing people is a necessity.
I dont like it, but i have to.
For firing people, I got my grounds from 3 sources.
1st is a book titled “THE GREAT EMPLOYEE”
Buku ini bercerita, bahwa kalau ada seorang atasan yang membiarkan timnya terdiri dari karyawan yang biasa biasa saja, maka dia secara tidak langsung menunjukkan dirinya adalah atasan yang bisa menerima hasil yang biasa biasa saja.
Sebagai pemimpin, kalau mau tim kita menghasilkan karya yang luarbiasa, maka isilah tim tersebut dengan orang orang yang luarbiasa.
Its really that simple.
Luarbiasa bukan berarti harus bisa segalanya.
Luarbiasa bisa jadi terbaik di bidangnya.
Terbaik dalam satu atau dua hal.
Paling tidak terbaik dalam sesuatu.
Sesuatu yang bermanfaat untuk tim.
Kalau kita sebagai atasan masih membiarkan timnya terdiri dari orang orang “mediocre” maka hasilnya juga “mediocre”. Salah timnya?
Bukan.
Salah pemimpinnya.
Kedua, dasar gue dalam memecat orang adalah dari sebuah buku berjudul WINNING oleh Jack Welch.
Jack Welch selalu membagi karyawannya dalam 3 bagian.
20% teratas.
70% ditengah.
10% paling bawah. Dengan performa terburuk.
20% diatas disiram bonus.
70% dihajar dengan pendidikan dan pengembangan.
10% dibawah dipecat.
SETIAP TAHUN.
Pemecatan itu bukan berarti 10% itu buruk.
Hanya saja, 10% itu tidak cocok untuk berada di perusahaan tersebut.
Performa dia yang masuk ke 10% dibawah menunjukkan ada sesuatu yang salah.
Karena sebelum dia ada di 10% terbawah, pasti dia sempat jadi bagian dari 70% yang ditengah.
Ketika dia melorot, pasti karena sesuatu.
Bisa jadi, dia tidak cocok.
Thats it.
Tidak cocok.
Daripada ditahan berlama lama diperusahaan, padahal performanya tidak baik, dia tidak berkembang, atas dasar kasian, lebih baik dia dilepas supaya punya peluang yang baru.
Yang kasian justru mempertahankan seseorang di tempat yang tidak PAS untuk dia.
Kadang kadang, karyawan suka nggak sadar.
Biasanya, pemimpin yang sadar apa yg terbaik untuk bawahannya.
Dasar yang ke 3 adalah sebuah kutipan dari 50 CENT.
Kutipan tersebut sebenarnya gue yakin dia ambil dari film film mafia.
Kutipannya kurang lebih seperti ini
“Kalau ada orang dalam lingkaran gue yang melukai gue, atau berbuat salah sama gue, akan langsung gue keluarkan dari lingkaran gue. If he made a mistake, its his mistake, but if he did it again, its MY mistake. My mistake for keeping him and letting him make another mistake.
So i would cut him out, before him making another mistake..”
Maka dengan 3 dasar itu, gue lepas supir gue.
He wasnt up to my expectation.
Tentu, tidak mudah untuk mendapatkan karyawan yang ideal.
But that’s exactly why its worth it.
If you want the best, you have to go through a tough process.
You have to believe in it.
