Pada bab sebelumnya gue menekankan bahwa menambah value pada produk adalah jawaban untuk bisa mengalahkan pembajakan. Value yang tidak bisa dibajak.
Di Bab ini, gue mencoba untuk memberikan solusi baru. Berpromosi, tidak HANYA beriklan.
Kembali kepada pembicaraan bahwa orang lebih percaya rekomendasi antar teman daripada iklan, maka penting untuk mengetahui bagaimana cara agar produk kita tersebar dari mulut ke mulut.
Di buku MARKETERS ARE LIARS, Seth Godin menerangkan bahwa produk atau pesan kita, tersebarkan dalam bentuk CERITA.
Mereka bercerita tentang restoran yang baru didatanginya, mereka cerita tentang film yang baru mereka tonton, mereka cerita tentang kerennya Blitz Megaplex atau betapa serunya pertandingan basket yang mereka tonton.
Setiap hari, kita semua bercerita kepada orang lain apa yang menurut kita penting, atau yang menurut kita penting bagi orang lain.
Agar produk kita bisa tersebar dari mulut ke mulut dari EARLY ADOPTERS kemudian beranjak menuju EARLY MAJORITY, maka produk kita harus bisa bercerita!
Cerita tersebut harus merupakan cerita yang penting menurut pembeli kita, atau yang menurut pembeli kita penting bagi orang lain.
Cerita yang menempel pada produk itulah yang akan tersebar kepada orang lain, seperti virus.
Karena itu Seth Godin bilang bahwa marketer yang baik tidak menjual produk, tapi menjual cerita. They make stories, not making up stories, they make stories around the product to make it easier for people to spread it.
Itulah yang juga gue masukin secara sadar ke dalam album gue, dan seperti pemilihan domain name, gue memasukan banyak cerita untuk disebarkan oleh banyak dan beragam jenis orang. Karena 1 angle cerita tidak akan bisa disebarkan dengan baik kepada beragam jenis orang.
Ada angle kehadiran Tompi dan Angga di album gue.
Gue tahu ini tersebar kebanyak orang karena ada beberapa orang yang nanya ke gue langsung atau SMS gue atau email gue sambil bertanya “Gue denger di album rap elo ada Tompi sama Angga ya?”
Ketika dia membuka pertanyaan dengan “gue denger…” maka itu tanda bahwa sebelumnya sempat ada perbincangan tentang hal tersebut.
Kemudian album gue keluar tidak jauh dari panasnya pembahasan di media mengenai pembajakan. Rolling Stones membahas itu di 2 edisinya.
Maka ketika gue menaruh track BAJAK LAGU INI di paling awal, gue tahu akan jadi bahan omongan orang.
Pada akhirnya gue juga mengetahui hal ini ketika gue tanya orang orang yang email gue nanyain album.
“Tau dari mana tentang album gue?” tanya gue
“Denger elo ngomong di radio” kebanyakan orang menjawab seperti itu
Tapi ada juga yang jawab “Tau dari temen”
Ketika ada yang menjawab seperti itu, gue reply emailnya sambil bertanya “Apa kata temen lo emang?”
Jawaban yang masuk diantaranya
“Kata temen gue elo membolehkan orang untuk bajak album lo…”
“Elo menyumbangkan 50% keuntungan untuk anak anak kanker”
Sementara temen temen lama gue (yang ternyata setelah gue cari tau tidak mendengarkan gue siaran) tau gue meluncurkan album dari obrolan berikut ini
“Tau nggak Pandji nulis lagu tentang kejadian perselingkuhan itu! Masih ingat ga lo?”
Yang mereka maksud adalah lagu DIBAYANG MASA LALU.
Lagu tersebut gue bocorin dengan sengaja ke beberapa teman karena gue tahu persis mereka tidak akan sabar untuk bilang ke orang lain.
Beberapa jawaban juga bilang
“Kata temen gue lagu lagu elo beda karena lebih smart dan ada semangat nasionalis.. Emang iya ya?”
“Kata temen gue elo bikin album rap dimana ada lagu elo nyanyi sama Steny”
“Kata temen gue lagu elo dan Tompi keren banget”
Salah satu jawaban yang sering banget gue temui…
“Kata temen gue lagu elo yang featuring Angga, ceritanya gue banget.. mau dong dengerin”
Tapi cerita yang paling kuat membuat album gue tersebar dalam omongan orang orang adalah, cerita bahwa gue menyumbangkan 50% kepada C3.
Kenapa cerita itu yang paling banyak tersebar? Karena paling dianggap orang penting, atau paling dianggap orang penting untuk diketahui orang lain.
Dalam penyebaran pesan lewat cerita yang HARUS DIINGAT ADALAH:
Bahwa cerita yang ingin kita sebarkan harus PENTING di benak potential buyer kita.
Bukan penting DIBENAK KITA.
Seringkali produsen menekankan poin poin yang penting di mata dirinya sendiri, bukan dimata pembelinya.
Contohnya, iklan iklan yang terlalu teknis semetara produknya adalah misalnya obat yang dijual di apotik tanpa resep dokter, atau HP GSM biasa.
Produsen merasa spesifikasi yang detail sangat penting, padahal pembeli hanya ingin tahu apakah efeknya kalau digunkan olehnya.
Cerita itu tidak harus melulu mengenai kegiaan amal seperti gue.
Cerita itu tergantung dengan siapa yang elo tuju.
Pertanyaan gue, cerita apa yang tersebar oleh produk elo?
Cerita apa yang elo sisipkan pada album elo?
Ada apa dalam album elo yang akan membuat orang bercerita tentang album elo?
Kalau elo merasa ini tidak penting, maka elo akan kehilangan momentum yang sangat besar.
Pelaku promosi terbesar dan terefektif, adalah pembeli elo sendiri.
Kalau elo tidak memiliki produk yang bercerita, maka tidak akan ada yang menyebarkan cerita tentang produk elo.
Produk elo, tidak akan ada yang tahu.
Mengapa? Karena kita semua tidak lagi percaya dan mau “menelan” iklan.
Satu hal lagi, pada akhirnya kita juga akan menyadari bahwa produk yang unik (seperti yang kita bahas pada bab pertama) akan diomongin orang juga.
Maka berbeda, sekali lagi lebih baik daripada menjadi lebih baik.
Bab selanjutnya gue bercerita bagaimana market gue ikut membantu proses gue membuat album. Ketika kita minta tolong kepada banyak orang, begitu luar biasa dampaknya bagi karya kita.
