Gue nonton konser Stevie Wonder “Live at Last, A wonder summer’s night” yang diadakan di London.
Ini adalah pertama kalinya gue nonton konser Stevie Wonder.
Berisi 25 lagu dengan band berkomposisikan 14 orang…
Stevie membawakan lagu lagunya dari Master Blaster (Jammin’) , Higher Ground, Livin for the city, Overjoyed, Lately, Superstition, As dan juga lagu terbarunya yang belum masuk album manapun, “You are the only one for me”
Rencana awalnya gue pengen belajar bagaimana Stevie menggubah lagulagunya ketika bermain live, bagaimana dia berinteraksi dengan penontonnya..
I wanted to be captivated.
I wanted to be caught in the moment.
And i was.
But there was something else…
Ternyata gue belajar seseuatu yang penting dari menulis lagu.
Sepanjang konser berdurasi 134 menit (i know, its written on the dvd box J ) gue memperhatikan satu hal…
Setiap lagu Stevie Wonder punya komposisi musik yang berbeda.
Tidak ada lagu yang memiliki suara yang sama.
Setiap lagu berdiri sendiri.
Setiap lagu punya tujuan khusus.
See im a fan of Stevie Wonder, not an avid fan, just a fan.
So i have two albums of his… Both are collections.
The Ballad Collections and The # 1’s Collections
I didnt actually realized until i marathoned his songs in this concert.
Konser DVD, 2 buah CD collections ini menunjukkan satu hal, bahwa lagu lagu ini, semua lagu berbeda karakter ini, adalah kumpulan lagu lagunya dari tahun ke tahun
ARTINYA
Sepanjang karirnya, dia tidak pernah menulis 2 lagu yang serupa.
Tidak ada yang serupa musiknya, tidak ada yang serupa liriknya.
Maksud gue, lagu cinta pasti banyak, tapi ga ada yang punya pendekatan yang sama.
Sementara gue menyadari beberapa hal bahwa di album album lain, termasuk album dari musisi Indonesia sering gue temukan beberapa lagu yang serupa dalam 1 album.
Membuat gue berpikir “Kenapa harus ada lagu ini ya? Padahal track 3 lagunya mirip juga baik musik ataupun pesannya…”

Kemudian gue berpikir tentang album gue.

I wouldnt want another UNTUK INDONESIA kinda song
I wouldnt want another MULANYA BIASA SAJA kinda song
I wouldnt want another KEMBALI TERTAWA kinda song
I want every song to be very special.
I want every song have a reason to exist.
Because if you have twin songs (songs that are similar in musical compositions or lyrics) once you stage all the songs, it wil sound weird.
You will not get the same vibe twice.
So i start listening to all 13 songs that i have recorded so far for my 2nd album.
I listened to all 14 songs on my 1st.
And not even 1 song sounded like the other.
Not even 1 song talks about the same thing as the other.
…
Now, im conscious about this.
Since im still writing and recording for my 2nd album, im never going to record a twin song.
But that also means another thing.
I have to really be conscious when writing and when picking up beats.
This means, more hard work.
More discipline.
But i’ll do anything for my album.
Im in hiphop because i can soul search.
Im in hiphop because it satisfies my soul.
Im in hiphop because i need to be subjective
I need to be myself.
I just hope you’ll like my work J
