Artikelnya bercerita tentang “akhir dari kaset”
Ingatkan? Kaset pita, sarana kita mendengarkan musik sebelum era CD apalagi digital?
Di Indonesia, entah berapa banyak yg menggunakan kaset, tapi asumsi gue angkanya menurun.
Kalangan menengah ke atas sekarang tidak lagi menggunakan kaset. Bahkan di koran Kompas beberapa hari yg lalu diceritakan bahwa kuli jalanan dan bahkan pemulung sampah banyak yg menggunakan ponselnya untuk mendengarkan musik
(Siapa tau ternyata selama ini joki 3 in 1 juga main twitter, hehehe)
Sony sendiri berhenti produksi walkman di Oktober 2010. Pabriknya ditutup.
Mobil terakhir yg masih menyertakan pemutar kaset di Amerika adalah Lexus SC 430 thn 2010.
Apakah artinya semua ini?
Artinya, kaset akan kembali jadi sesuatu yg “cool”
Kenapa begitu?
Karena kaset kini mulai menjadi sesuatu yg unik, vintage dan collectible
Sebagaimana kita tau vinyls atau piringan hitam adalah sesuatu yg keren karena sifatnya yg sudah jadi barang koleksi.
Jay Z baru baru ini juga meluncurkan beberapa album dalam format piringan hitam utk menyuguhkan kebutuhan para kolektor
Sama seperti kamera polaroid yg hasilnya keluar instan tapi harus dikipas kipas dulu , hehehe
Beberapa label indie mulai merilis musik musik mereka dgn kaset kembali krn “its the new cool”
Seorang musisi indie Clive Tanaka y su Orquestra memulai “hype” tahun lalu ketika dia mengirimkan kaset berisi lagu2nya kepada blogger. Dgn senang hari blogger membahas musiknya dan tentunya keunikan pengalamannya..
Clive, akhirnya dibahas di Chicago Tribune karena tindakannya tadi, lalu kini dia dapat deal rekaman, publicist, dan rombongan penggemar yg melobi Coachella (sejenis festival musik indie yg besar di US) dan akhirnya berhasil masuk ke daftar pengisi di Coachella 2011
Seorang pemilik label di LA bernama MatthewDavid bikin pesta bulanan namanya “Top Tape” yg memainkan lagu lagu dari kaset. Katanya tujuannya supaya pecinta musik bisa saling memperdengarkan koleksi dan bertemu dgn musik musik yg tidak dapat dijumpai dgn format lain..

Dalam sejumlah tulisan terdahulu, gue pernah bilang bahwa masyarakat jaman sekarang bukannya ga mau beli musik. Mereka tidak mau beli CD. Karena format itu sudah usang.
Tapi bukan berarti, CD ditinggalkan.
CD sekarang jadi lebih valuable
Lebih punya nilai tambah..
Maka musisi harusnya mulai memperlakukan musik digital sebagai “dagangan” utama dan memperlakukan musik fisik seperti CD sebagai collectible item yg dipasarkan utk fans setia. Yg ingin punya sesuatu utk dipegang, dilihat dan dikoleksi.
CD isn’t dead, but I will soon be the new cool….
